Carpet
Before you visit our showroom do some homework. Take a few minutes to figure out what areas you want carpeted and estimate their size.
Be prepared to answer questions about your lifestyle, number of family members (including pets), your expectation of the carpet's performance, your color scheme, and your concerns about footprints, seams, cleanability, wear, and so on.
There are many things to consider if you're in the market for a new carpet. How does it look in the room? How it feels on your feet? Is it stain-resistant and easy-to-clean? A carpet pad provides comfort and serves as a shock absorber for your carpet, extending its life. But be careful, a pad that's too thick or soft will sink with each footstep, and pull on the carpet backing -- actually reducing the life of your carpet. A thin, dense pad will prevent wear on the carpet. Carpet construction also affects padding choices. Follow the carpet manufacturer's recommendations.
Chances are you've been thinking about the color for months, but what about the fiber? Your choice depends greatly on the amount of traffic the area will endure. But the good news is that whereas carpet style and pricing vary greatly, the selection of fibers is basically standard:
- NYLON - Almost 2/3 of all carpeting sold today is nylon. Strong and readily available, it's the most common choice for any high traffic area.
- PET POLYESTER - The long chemical name is Polyethylene Terepthalate. It has natural and permanent stain resistance and is comparable to nylon in strength and abrasion resistance.
- OLEFIN - Although it's one of the most stain resistant fibers, it is crushes easily. Olefin is a good choice for indoor/outdoor carpeting.
